Sometimes I am not able to put it into the dryer immediately, but if I don't, it sours after one day! I have noticed that I don't have this problem when I use bleach, but I can't use bleach with darks; anything I can add to my dark loads to keep this from happening?

Although this is a common problem, one possibility with excessive odor might be alleviated by using some baking soda in the rinse water. If you are not using a fabric softener, you might try that also.

Leaving it sit in a dark moist and probably somewhat warm place (your washer) is what is causing the sour smell. That environment is a perfect "home" for moldy type organisms.

To prevent: just make sure you are able to dry the clothes within at least a few hours of the end of wash cycle.

P.S.- bleach kills mold- thats why it only happens in the dark loads.

of co0urse if you live in the sweat belt of the south, things will sour more quickly

It would help if you didn't drain the whole water from the clothes. Then maybe it would not smell sour. But best it use fabric softer and baking powder TOGETHER.
