Comments made in unguarded moments are often given considerable weight because they are believed by many to reflect your true (but previously deliberately hidden) inner feelings. Once revealed, your comments label you as a Judas of sorts and the group no longer wants to associate with you.
You referred to your comment as trivial, but didn't divulge what that comment was, nor did you divulge why you consider it trivial. That tends to make you sound like someone who has something to hide.
If your situation was that you were at your church bake sale, suddenly noticed that you lost track of time and were then late for an appointment, and unintentionally uttered the words "Oh f*ck" and did so a little louder than you should have, I think your comment might eventually be considered undeliberate, trivial, and most likely will soon be forgotten. But, if you noticed that most of the ladies who baked cakes were black and you said to some of your white friends "Are we supposed to be here or is this just for n*ggers" then I don't think your comment will be considered trivial, nor do I think that it will soon be forgotten.
My recommendation, get out of town, join another church. And last but not least, get your head straight--if you can't do that, then learn to keep your mouth shut or get fitted for a muzzle.
If my guess that your situation took place at a church bake sale wasn't on target, then please provide details to help improve the chances of receiving better targeted responses.

Assuming that it was you who made the 'trivial comment', wouldn't they shake hands, even if you said sorry? Then your comment was hardly trivial. Depending on the gravity of your so called 'trivial comment', the most you can do is apologise publicly to your offended colleagues. Nothing more than that. If they refuse to relent, no need to try harder. Another 'accident' will hopefully bring you together again. Or you can engage the services of a more 'understanding' colleague to bring about peace. Anyway, be more guarded in your comments in future.

Then let them be and find better collegues. If they are "best" they will seek you out. If they are trivial, they will only comment the more.
