The "french manicure" is actually the *look* the nails have after being polished a certain way. Use a light pinkish base, then a stark white polish for the tips, applying as if you're filling in the white free edge on your natural nails. It's not harmful, at all. In fact, it's quite safe, you're only *painting* a design on your nails, not applying harmful product. I think you're thinking of the acrylic tips that people have put on their nails that look like a French Manicure. Acrylic nails, after time, can damage the natural nail because of the acid-base primer used to *sketch* the nail, when being prepped for glue and nail tips. After time, the natural nail becomes weak and limp. If you have long nails now, buy a French Manicure *kit* which will include the two polishes that you will need to polish nails.

Good luck. :-)

yeah sure you can do it at home!! and no it doesnt really harm your nails.. its just like putting any other nail paint!!! you need to get a french manicure kit.. it contains one pinkish nail paint and one white one.. and topcoat.
1. Using the white nail paint for the nail tips, sweep paint across from one side of the nail to the other. Most packs contain nail guides which help you get a straight line if you haven't got a steady hand.
Wait until completely dry to remove the nail guide so the white tips don't get smudged. Wait for it to Dry!
2. Apply the pink nail colour to the whole of the nail in three even strokes.
Wait for it to dry
3. Apply top coat over the whole nail to give a shiny and protective seal.

Stores like WalMart offer French manicure polishes you can apply easily made by Lycra. Or just use acrylic paints like they do, (SO much cheaper than a kit) with a brush on the tips and clear polish over them when completely dry. Not any more harmful than normal polish...have fun!

Hi. It's not harmful..There are kits you can buy at Walgreen's for a home french manicure....I'm not sure if it is worth the trouble though...you may be better off just going to get one. Good luck!

They sell kits to do it, or you can try it freehand with the white polish & a lil brush dipped in nail polish remover to even out your "smile line" - it's NOT harmful
