The heart has always been the center of human life. Without the heart or when the heart stops beating, it signals the end of life for a person. As with love, people feel that their life only starts when love is present in their lives. When a relationship ends or when love fades, some people also feel that it is as though their life ended as well. At the start of love, people feel as if their heart is beating faster because of the joy and excitement they feel when seeing or being with the person they love. This heartbeat of course can be linked and traced to the heart. If a relationship is ending or when a person feels hurt because of a lost love, it is also the heart that feels it among all the other human body parts. The heart feels a certain ache that can only be associated with a fleeing love, and the pain also causes the person to cry so much or feel so much that their breathing becomes shallow and fast. This sensation can medically be linked to the heart, thus the term heartache or heartbreak is used. The heart has always been a symbol of love and always will be. It would be hard to imagine associating love with the stomach or the pancreas, but the heart will indeed always represent the same things that love does. Love can make you feel as if you are on the top of the world, and a healthy, happy heart can make it possible in many different ways.

A combination of ideas.
A pair of swans looking at each other in profile, their necks bent to form half a heart, so it makes a whole heart with the two (swans mate for life)
