Looking to buy something next week for my husbands birthday. We've never owned one of these things...he wants the Tiger Woods golf game. Is it available for all the systems?? Can previous game versions be played on the newer systems? What's the deal with the Nintendo WII that's coming out?? HELP!! I'm nervous about spending $$$ on something I know so little about! ...what are the benefits & downsides of each?? We have 2 girls (6 & 12) that'll use it too. Who can enlighten me?!?!?

All consoles are pretty much good. But I would suggest Nintendo Wii over the other two. For one, it is the cheapest, at a retail price of $249.99. For another, I don't believe Tiger Woods is coming out yet, but the Wii comes packaged with a title called Wii Sports, a game that includes tennis, bowling, golf, and some other sports, I believe. Also, the control is designed to make it "feel" as if you are playing the game, instead of pushing some buttons. So when Tiger Woods comes to console, your husband will be able to swing the control like a golf stick if he wants to! That is the purpose of Wii Sports too. Also, the little girls will enjoy Wii Sports and many other things inside the Wii console, like making a personal Avatar that will be saved inside the control or customizing pictures saved on an SD memory card. The console is backwards compatible with Gamecube, and you will be able to download past Nintendo games onto the console. If you'd like, you can read more about Wii at www.wii.com. They show videos on how the control is used and many features included in the console. You can also read about Wii and XBox360 and PS3 at the website www.ign.com. Hope that helps.

the wii is cheapest but im not sure it is compatible with any old nintendo games exspecially since they change shape with each new system.. the ps3 has a version of the big game Oblivion that is only available on the ps3 that is "better" than the one released for the 360last year. and also promises shorter load times. the ps3 should be mostly reverse compatible since they were really good about that with the ps2 the 360 how ever only plays certain xbox games but this is changing you can download upgrades off line onto a harddrive and then attach that to the 360 and download but i would really go with the ps3 even though i havent played it yet my 360 is good but i waited to get a later model.. also consider that the 360 had alot of overheating issues when it was first released so (among other things) so take into consideration that the ps3 and wii are brand new and the first to be released may have "issues"

The wii is the best system for a husband that plays golf and two kids. It's kid friendsly and plays all gamecube games and can download older games off the internet via bult in wi-wi. You could play golf like you really would with the wii-mote. I don't know if there's a tiger woods game out for it, but the ps3 would be way too hard to get, and why buy a year old system when new ones come out. There is Hot Shots golf for the wii, or something like that I know.

It also depends on your internet connection and whether you want the xbox 360 or just xbox, ps2 or ps3, and gamecube or wii...you mentioned wii. The ps3 would cost the most and you probably couldn't get it in time anyway since it is just coming out and shipments are low. The wii is just coming out as well, but could be the most fun for the whole family...but as someone else mentioned, doesn't have Tiger Woods yet. The xbox 360, which I have (and a 5 year old daughter) is nice if you have highspeed internet. The Xbox 360 is finally coming out with games for younger kids as well like Lego Star Wars, Viva Pinata, and you can download older games like PacMan, Digdug, etc. You can also play DVDs on it. Its a little more accessible to get right now since the other systems are new, so the jury's out for the wii and ps3. Prices are 400 for the 360 (get the one with a hard drive to store files), ps3 500 or 600 (depends on hard drive size, this also plays BluRay disc movies), and around 250 for the wii, which doesn't play DVDs or BluRay.

Since you've "never owned one of these things" than the Nintendo Wii would be the best/obvious choice for your family. The benefits of the Wii are interactive gaming(when you play golf, the wii-mote becomes your golf club) low price $250(half the cost of PS3) and it is the most fun of the three. The Tiger Woods game comes out for all consoles and for the PS3 and Wii it will be backwords compatible. The Wii is the best choice and this video will show you why. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARQKcWJHRp0

Well if you are looking for a high end graphics system and are looking to spend alot of money get the xbox 360 ps is cheap and has tons of games that vary from different genre's especially golf and other sports games and the controller is easy to use for little children the wii motion control would be a little difficult for them to use

Wii seems to be the most interactive one but not as good graphics but the wii would have more camp games (little creature sort of amine cute graphics thing).
PS3, me being for some reason anti playstation isnt an amazing person to ask about the ps3. But i know it wont have internet thing built in, i think.
Xbox 360 already out (only one out where i come from).

The Wii has a remote that has motion sensors so he can actually swing it like a golf club so it depends if wants to do that or not.
