No, it's not only sexual, it can be emotional, too...which would probably lead to other things eventually....

Nationality: Australian

Cheating on a partner occurs when you go outside of the boundaries of your relationship that you have committed to.

For example, you said "I will forsake all others" that means to set aside something that was important to you. Other partners would possibly fall into this category.

If you are thinking about being with another person then effectively it is cheating. If you think it is not, ask yourself the question "How would I feel if my partner told me he/she was thinking about being with another man/woman?"

I think you would feel pretty cheated.

There are numerous philosophies that suggest the power of the mind is so strong that, when you start thinking about something it will become reality. This even goes to the extent where the first thing motivational speakers talk on is "How you think"

Does it have to be sexual? I would suggest it is not, it could be a kiss, or a touch or even a thought allowed to grow.

Please don't talke my response as a left extremist view that you cannot think a person of the opposite sex is nice, I'm not suggesting that. I am saying that it is what you allow your mind to continue and act on that thought process.

Emotional/Intimate with another person can lead to physical. If you can share personal things with another woman/man that you cannot share with your spouse some consider this cheating. It crosses a line. Physical of course, is cheating, Kissing, even holding hands (initmacy issues again). Its the same for both husbands and wives - don't kid yourself into thinking if your a man or a woman some rules don't apply to you!!!

There are all different ways of cheating! Lusting after someone other then the one you are living with is cheating, that is cheating with your mind! Touching in an a manner that is not right, with a person other then the one you are living with, or dating, is cheating, It doesn't have to be sexual!

My definition of cheating is if my partner has a connection (whether mental/emotional or phyisical) with another woman that causes him to lie to me... if that happens then there is something very wrong. I am an Aussie oi oi oi

Infidelity in a marriage or committed relationship can be physical or emotional.

To fall in love with someone else and tell your spouse, "Well, I haven't slept with him or her!" is just as devastating to a relationship as physical cheating.

I'm from the USA.

For a wife, cheating is having full-blown sex with another person while they are in a committed relationship.

For a husband, cheating is looking at another woman, flirting, looking at porn, having female friends, always being guilty before being proved innocent, and, oh yeah, having full-blown sex with another person while they are in a committed relationship.

In the US, women get away with murder when it comes to the definition of cheating.

It's sexual only! "Emotional cheating" is such BS. It's made up by jealous and controlling lovers who don't want their spouses to keep close friendships. I'm female, Canadian, married in every way that counts (too busy for the paperwork right now) and twenty-two years old.

My definition is: If you wouldn't do it with your partner and mother in the room with you, it's cheating. I'm from Australia (why would that matter?)
