Don't exactly take the history of words for granted but often think it was my own generation that created certain words.
When I first became addicted to Deadwood (set in the 1860s),
I was astounded to hear fu*k as every second word.
After all, John Wayne never said fu*k.
I always assumed that it was a by-product of the Swinging 60's.
The decade of free love and never-mind-the-consequences?
And now you go and tell me fart is over 800 years old.
My education needs updating!

I do, when I use words to speak to certain people I've known for a long time and am close with, like my best friend for example.

I don't take anything for granted, history is one of my favorite subjects, and I'm a very nostalgic person. History is what makes us who we are :)

I must say, it pisses me off that certain phrases (i.e. "Sitting on the fence", "Cold-blooded", and "Hey nonny-nonny") are attributed to Shakespear.
