Oftimes we have desires which, if fulfilled, would bring us great sorrow.

P.S. please share your experience or cite an example for me to understand.

thanks

basically the same as 'be careful what you wish for'.

example, you might wanna marry a doctor or something, cause they're rich, but the reality is, they're always working, always on call etc. you end up wishing you'd NEVER married the doctor.

Forbidden love. I met a guy which became my good friend eventually and already has a fiancee. Later on, my feeling to this guy evolved from just being friend to something else and the feeling was mutual. I know from the start, it's already doomed, since he told me he cannot be separated with her but I still went on with it, it was really a bittersweet experience but I have to leave him afterwards since I told him I cannot accept to be the third party all the time. You never know and I hope you will never found out how a heart is being pierced when I made that decision then. That's how I described your statement.

It's kind of like the old saying, "Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it." Sometimes the things we want aren't really the best things for us. I once wanted this really neat toy rocket. But it was expensive, so I did odd jobs around my neighborhood for a month until I could afford it. Then when I got it home, I set it up in the yard and launche it, but it burned up right there when the motor blew. I felt so bad, all of that work for nothing.

Example:

Being born to a wonderful family and having to endure the death of your loved ones.

Life is full of sorrow but the other way to look at it is this: Often times out of sorrow comes great joy.

Basically, be careful what you wish for as you might just get it.

"Be careful what you wish for; it may come true."
