Taste and sex appeal are in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I have no desire to look like a hippie. My grandma has loads of pictures with her decked out in her hippy regalia, and although I love my gran very much, I have absolutely no desire to BE her!
As to there never being any "fat" hippies, look at Mama Cass Elliott (from the Mamas and the Papas). That woman was beyond fat.
And Gran says that most young people were skinny in those days (but hardly ever super skinny like now) because they were too busy spending their money on drugs, and exploring natural hallucinogens to bother eating much. Are you honestly considering replacing today's obesity with universal drug use?

I could do without the girdles; I hate tight clothes that chaff. On the other hand, yes, some of the fashions from those eras were very stylish. Even now, I like to mix it up. I still have a classic shirt dress from the seventies; and it still fits like a dream. I top it off with a blazer, a pair of classic black pumps, and some vintage costume jewelry and/or another accessory. I also have 60's style jean skirts that are timeless with a nice sweater and a pair of medium heeled dress boots. I like fashion, but not being a slave to it; I use pieces from different eras to create a unique look.

I think a lot would I used to be very cool I looked it too. With my hair put up in a chignon. Very slim so I could wear slinky black dresses, nipped in at the waist. Suspenders and stockings, with underwear that matched. High plain stilettos, and clutch bag, long gloves and a swing back coat. Well groomed, with a good skin foundation, and lots of eyeliner and a dash of eye shadow. Lipstick that made a statement. And the walk well that was the secret... Deportment.
I felt good about myself and took pride in my appearance even though my cloths may not have all been of the lastest fashion. I would never have dreamt of going out with my trousers at half mast with the waist half hanging round my middle showing my stomach. And with the hem of my trousers dragging on the ground.
However, in the here and now, I'm sitting wondering how I've let myself go to rat **** and I thank you for reminding to take more care of my appearance even though I'm a bit long in the tooth.
Thank you for that question.

Well 60's style was in a few years ago, but it looks like now the 80's are back!! Everything comes round in circles, I am sure whatever it is you like from the 60's will be back in fashion one of these days! I agree, it was a very classy decade for clothes.

I'm guessing your weren't alive in the 60's.... yes, there were still ppl of all sizes back then, not everyone was skinny.
As far as the mod Mini skirts, go go boots, pale lipstick look, like everything else, it comes back into fashion, then goes out again. Since you like the fashions, hope for you it comes back into style soon :-)

I have quite a few 60s pieces but I'm not slim so I can't go too over the top with it.

Everyone has different tastes, and the majority of people find more modern clothing sexier. However Im sure that if you goto a few retro bars you can find what your looking for :)

It's not the packaging that creates the sex appeal but the package. Younger women have lost the ability to be alluring and sexy.
