They've done it in marketing always. Obviously it doesn't make anything worse for the marketeers,rather targets groups where their product is needed or wanted.
Not really sure in which way you mean concerning govt., but it is realistic when establishing the needs of the people.

It's statistically easier to force us into boxes. They can't think outside the box. The only time I will be inside any box is when I am dead.

I hate the way they categorise us as 'Consumers'...
I find it personally insulting to be labelled like that, as if all I do & all I was made for was to consume things.
