Commitment and learning life. This doesn't need to be marriage though. Common law spouses and homosexual couples that can't marry because America is still prehistoric are in many ways equal to legally married couples.

God commands for his children to give and be given in marriage. For a man to leave his parents and cleave to his wife. Families are the back bones to society and the number of non married family's is taking its toll. Satan will do any thing to break up the family. Besides, for me, marriage is wounder full. I love being married to my husband. I'm living with my best friend. Hes soft, gentle, kind, open arms when I need a shoulder. Its about honesty, commitment, the ability to look over some one Else's faults, there are a great number of lesions learned in mar rage. Not only that but its never changing.

People will often throw the cliche around that marriage is only a bit of paper.
Well it is not. It is about a set of promises you make another person that you would rather die for than to go back on. Forsaking all others.
Marriage is about a union between you, your partner and God.

For me, it will be when I find my best friend, the man I can totally be myself with, love freely, and then to vow to each other to stay so until death takes one of us. I don't take marriage lightly, and when I go into it, it will be with the intention of forever. That is probably why I avoid flings and weak romantic attachments. I believe marriage is a proclamation to the world or your promise to each other. I wish more people meant it when they say for forever.

Commitment, monogamy, and procreation.
Creating a stabily committed enviorment to raise children.
Abide by the will of God.
Look marriage up in the dictionary and the thesaurus.
standing at the altar professing to your family and friends your true and honest intent to love honor cherish protent in goodtimes and bad.
many things.
I would say that if someone didn't want to marry you they were NOT truely committed, and were actually holding you hostage, as a way to control you and hurt you. even if they say they think diffrently and say otherwise. Its their own private power struggle.
A form of Abuse, I would say.that individual was scared to commit, and that he waiting to see if things would change, in his favor.
And as far as children go, If you aren't married to the father well he doesn't get the same rights as a married man would. infact to the judge , who knows you only via paper , it looks like he is immature and irresponsible.flakey.
And If one of you were to die then all the things the 2 of you have worked for all these years to build, are not yours.not legally.
so think long and hard before agreeing to a marriageless marriage.
Don't hurt your self and or anyone else.

Its a religious website but under marriage and family there is an article on creating a violence free family.
And althought this is not the exact topic , it will give you insight as to what power struggles are all about. check it out.

Is to make a sol um oath for all to know that you accept a person into your life and that you love them for who they are. Admiring the things that are common as well as those things are different. That you will keep yourself within that relationship and will not perform any act that would jeopardise it. To keep within the parameters of the relationship a partner who will be there within, good and bad, and cherish all that is within that person in harmony at the best of all times.

In most cultures it provides a public statement of commitment from a moral and legal standpoint. Depending on your religion if you have any there are religious connotations as well.
It also provides for a more stable and secure enviroment to raise children.

Marriage is a vow to someone whom you love more than life itself. It is the creation of a family out of love, a lifetime companion, someone to share your ups and downs, your hopes and dreams, your joys and your sorrows. A best friend to have and to hold. Its a lifetime commitment to your significant other, to support them no matter what.

The bible says that man and women were put on the earth to procreate. "Fill the earth and subdue it" it says. It was made enjoyable to procreate so mankind would not die off!
