I'm currently making my way through all seven series of The West Wing (wonderful). Strangely, the character of Mandy seems to have completly disappeared at the start of season 2. Anyone know what happened here?

Aaron Sorkin (the creator of the show) and Moira Kelly (who played Mandy) agreed that the character was pretty much going nowhere and so she left the show. Sorkin has said that he'd intended to come up with an exit for her, even if it was just two characters talking about her being somewhere else, but he never got around to it. Too bad he didn't plan ahead a little bit; he could have just killed her off in Rosslyn.
This is why you'll occasionally hear about West Wing characters going off to "Mandyville."

Mandy just vanished after series one. Never seen, heard or mentioned again.

I've read that her character was not accepted by the fans. She later has to "decide" to work for a republican or the President, but can't work for both.
