Check that you have not selected "Open Browser window in minimum" In the IE properties Advanced settings.

Good question. I have the same problem so I hope some one comes on and can answer you question. I also would like to know what causes that to happen, things will be normal one day and then all of a sudden you have the problem you are having.

Instead of maximise stretch it as big as it goes before you close it then it will be at it's maximum restore size.

I think if you go to the corners with your cursor & stretch it to full screen,it willremain like that next time you open the window

when you open your browser or email client, maximize them. when you close it and reopen it, it will be in its previous maximized state.
for certain browsers though such as IE, opening a link in a new window will automatically open a non-maximized window. only certain sites that have maximize scripts counter this dillema.
