No. They will just keep on being their own arrogant selves.

All of the moderate Republicans were voted out last Tuesday. The republican party is now in the hands of the most inflexible far right wing of the party and the Democrats have become the party of the center. Watch Caffe from Rhode Island, become a Democrat before too long, the Republican party doesn't have room for him anymore.

I wouldn't exactly call Bush a representative of a "hardline conservative movement."
The Republicans lost for many reasons -- one of them being that they have departed badly from Reagan's message, and from the message that won them Congress in 1994.
They've strayed too far away from their platform of limited government, lower taxes, and less government spending.
I hope they can rediscover that message somewhere along the way the next two years.

It's an ill wind that doesn't blow some good. I'm hoping that there's a major shift in the Republican movement [very unlikely] or better yet, a new party with these planks: Government has a monopoly on the use of force, but never initiates the use of force; government is responsible for national defense, courts & police -- nothing more, nothing less. (none of this alters the structure of the branches of government, but would eliminate most of the alphabet agencies)

Well, there was a lot of sucking going on both sides given the vitriole that has come out of Pelosi's mouth over the years.
If the Republican Party wakes up to anything, it better be to the fact that they have abandoned so many Conservative values over the years, that their base was not energized to support them.

We'll have to if we want a chance in 08. Changes to be made? We'll have to drop the social conservatism, especially the pro-life extremists and those who vehmnently attack the war on drugs. Other things my party must do is stand up for what they promised and fix that illegal alien situation, or at least take steps in the right direction. Lastly, they must find Osama. No ifs, and or but. My party must find Osama while they are still in the Presidency if they want to do well in 08

If the Republican party were to "wake up" there wouldn't be a conservative anywhere to be seen in the US, we would all b liberal.
Secondly I find it funny that small minds drag Lincoln out as an example of a good Republican President, that is true in name only. At that point in American History the Republican Party was the Liberal party.

True conservatives don't change, hence the name.
Our society has pockets of leftists, but the majority of Americans remain conservative minded, because people tend to fear change.
The Republicans in the administration have come across as being out of touch with their constituency, and that includes true conservatives.

I believe the republican party was and is wide awake it is the majority who are living in tooley land!
Time will tell but unfortunately it will be to late to start whining and mewing.
A government is only as good as the people who vote it in.
I for one observed President Bush using humility in the situation I don't believe he was brown nosing.
Take care!

Good question. They appear to be. Even on this board, people are saying they are "conservatives" and never really supported everything the Republican party did. Hatemonger Ken Mehlman is resigning as chair of RNC, and puppet Hastert will not even be House minority leader. Very good signs!
