If they do it will of course be seen as a punishment for his bad deeds.
But how do we know that death is actually a punishment?

No. There can be no valid 'punishment' for the crimes he has been convicted of, since punishment always involves making restitution for a wrong and nothing will make restitution for the lives of the people he killed. By that definition, also, the death penalty is not a punishment, since no death 'pays for' another.

Anyone who quotes the Bible and says 'The payment for sin is death' is ignoring the fact that only God is justified in punishing sin and only God is capable of judging whether a person has committed sin. Mankind is limited to deciding whether an individual has infringed human laws or sensibilities and, if so, what redress is appropriate.

If Saddam is hung, he will become a martyr to his sympathisers. We cannot know where in the world they are or when or if or where they may commit acts of terrorism in his name.

If Saddam is incarcerated, there is a possibility that he may try to organise acts of terror from his cell. If he does that, intelligence has a much better chance of uncovering any plots.

Thirdly, the validity of the court has been called into question, both by Saddam and by others, who are not necessarily sympathisers. If it were later to be found that there was any doubt about the way the trial was conducted, that would make excellent fuel for his sympathisers.

So, quite apart from any moral concerns about the rightness or wrongness of the death penalty, it would be politically very unwise to execute him.

Hanging Hussein would be a mistake because that will only make him a martyr to the people who support him ,thus causing even more deaths. The best punishment for him would be to keep him locked up for the rest of his life, that will let him think about all the evil he has done, which i think will make him insane eventually. Hanging him will give him a quick release from what he has done, and he will rest in peace, whilst all around people are still dying because of him. What is worse , a quick end to a life of evil or a number of years thinking about what you have done in this life. I rest my case.

Truthfully it really doesnt matter to me since he never did anything to me so I cant really find myself caring what happens to him. But for the things he did I would have to say that hanging would be to good for him or anyone who made so many suffer and die and should have to suffer at least some too. So I would have to say it would be better to cut his head cut off with a dull knife so it will take alittle longer. Or bury him up to his neck in the dirt and cover him with honey and let the ants bite him while all the people stone him with tiny little stones. He had to many people killed and made to suffer to end his life so quickly by hanging. They could also cut him up with paper cuts until he bleeds to death. Or heres my favorite , take his sight , his tounge, his hearing , his hands and his feet including the limbs so all he would be would be a body and a head and unable to communicate or know if anyone is communicating with him. Now that would be punishment. He would have to live the rest of his life going mad and not being able to do a thing about it.

No. Why?

1. It produces a martyr for a group of people who really don't need any further justification for undertaking terrorist acts.
2. It allows the West to continue to absolve themselves from any responsibility for arming and supporting him for so many years.
3. It is probably what Hussein wants - when he was origonally captured, he was stopped from taking a suicide pill.

Over Sadaam's 'occupation', practically 2 million people have died in greater inhumane strategies than anybody people could desire to think of. putting is the easy way out for Hussein- he says he would be viewed as a 'martyr to the Muslim international' and it only isn't painful for terribly long, as i'm particular a lot of people have suffered for days and doubtless even weeks. in certainty, Sadaam merits to die as quickly as for each dying for which he's in charge.

death is a punishment, it is spelled out in the bible as the punishment for sin. it was the punishment of adam and eve,

of course, the thought that I ask is,
how will killing him take away what he has done?

maybe they should make him watch as all his assest are removed, and given to the people he harmed,
as he lives in the conditions he created for others?

hanging is too good for him!
He should be left out alone on the streets and let the general population of Iraq do what the hell they like to him!
i'm sure that would be a punishment for him!

He will be judged by God ,for his wicked and inhuman deeds, after he is dead ,

That is a certainty.

i am against capital punishment

However he meted out capital punishment, so very freely .
He surely deserves, to die in that way too .

I am indifferent to his fate , death will come to him ,
one way or another.

My sorrow is for his victims and their relatives .

I think it should be on 'pay per veiw'. Punishment or not he'll be gone and no longer pose a threat.
