I read an article that said that most americans would prefer to live in a bungalow with a winch to get them out of bed because they are too lazy. Also, the 'must have' gadget this christmas is a Dialing Wand.

It just goes to prove what absolute rubbish you can actually PAY to read!

It is true that an increasingly worrying proportion of Americans are overweight but the article was being exceptionally facetious!

Okay this is ridiculous. I dont know what country you reside but as someone who lives in the United States and has travelled all over the world, there are fat and skinny people all over the world. Obesity is a world wide issue. American portions are larger. The difference is, in Britain and other Europen countries, you dont really have to go boxes. In America, we take everything to go. generally when eating at a resturaunt we are not only thinking of what we want to eat then but also what will be good warmed up later because we almost always take 1/2 our food home for later.

Americans lazy? We are in a country that basically gives us no choice but to work to survive. Then in other countries where your insurance is paid for by the Government and they have loads of government housing where they dont pay a cent, we dont have those luxuries. All the Americans I know work there butts off. Lazy people are everywhere. People are everywhere. You cant generalize one nation as lazy. There are names for you as well - like closeminded. You clearly have no clue what you are saying.

Well now that just depends on where you get your facts. The United States is a large place filled with skinny and fat and in between people. I am sure that wherever you live has its share of all kinds of people as well.

As far as facts - everyone knows that Obesity is a world wide epidemic.. its not just an American thing.

You are clearly looking for a debate here or you wouldnt have singled out Americans. There are fat people everywhere. Also - fat does not equal lazy. Lots of issues can be attributed to obesity it is not always a lazy "American" thing.

Who you calling "fat", lard-o?
Sure, high caloric food, little required labor, and a sedentary lifestyle are combining to create record numbers of lard-butted folk, not just here, but in England, China, and all of the emerging nations.
It is the in-bred human desire to become fat. We have spent most of our 200,000 years on the planet scraping a living from the land, trying to get just enough to eat.
Now that we are finally in a position to have as much food as we want, there's no real inherent mechanism to tell us "that's enough." We eat what is there because in our genes is the heritage of starving.
So we have to be aware of this and make allowances - cook less, cook smart, join a gym, play a sport - because if left to our own devices (heh), we'll be sitting on the couch, trying to find the remote in the rolls of our arm-fat.

The truth is that some Americans are too fat, so are some of the people here in Britain, and so too are many other races.

When I first went to university in the US, I met some fat people, but they proved to be few and far between.

Since then I've visited many countries and found the same to be true in all of them.

The same thing is happening in this country.Everyone is quick to blame parents or over eating.I wonder what muck they put in our food, additives etc.My dog is 12 years old I changed her food after finding out Iams experiment on dogs. She had an allergic reaction to Gluton, they put rubbish in dog food & I think our food is not that far behind.

By American's, do you mean those people from North America or South America?

I've never known an entire continent of people to be classified as fat or lazy!

That's because we are a rich country with good food and good drink and we can live excessively. Don't be jealous. Unlike you poor eurotrash who eat muffins and drink tea all day.

Well you have the lazy Americans and the working Americans. Than there is the once that take care of their bodies and those that don't. But all of them have one thing in common. They are Americans and members of a great society that gives a choice to be what you want to be.(fat, skinny, fit, unfit)everyone is welcome even people like you.

Not all of them are and maybe you should take a look around you. I don't know where you are from but obeseity is becoming a worldwide problem and we have all the junk food and lack of exercise to blame for it.
