Gabriella, I would be very surprised if it is mandatory to change your name in the USA. I think if you enquire you will find you can keep your own name, just as you do in Italy.
It is personal choice.
Many women here do not change their name either. On the other hand, I have known some men take their wife's name. personal choice.

Yes, I have a friend who is from Italy and she uses her husbands last name here and her maiden name in Italy. She has duel citizenship I believe. You can legally change your name in America and it doesn't affect your legal name in another country because it's a completely different legal system.

You do not have to change your name when you get married.
However, you can only have one 'offiicial' name: ie, what is on your passport. Day-to-day you can be known by what name you like, as long as it is not with the intention to commit fraud. However, the name on your bank-account etc must be that which is on your passport.
Something to consider though: if and when you have children in the future, what name will you give them? You can give them both, but not all double-barrelled names sound very good!

You don't have to change your name when you get married. It's completely optional. Just go by Ms. Maiden name. Instead of Miss Maiden name.

It is not necessary to take the husband's surname. It's something for you and your husband to dcide on. You can keep your own name. Just remember that if you do not choose to be Mrs. American, you become Ms. Italiano rather than a Mrs. Italiano.

You can keep your own surname and just add your husband's surname to yours. that way you have your own surname as well as your husband's.
