I agree with every one else, try not to stress to much, and think positive, they may have picked a slight abnormality, which needs to be rechecked.

Pap tests are the best way to pick up infections and precancerous cells and abnormal cells.

Wishing you all the best and good luck!

I was called back cos my test was inconclusive. Sometimes they can't assess the cells as they've been taken from the wrong place, your period was due/had just finished etc. There are many reasons. Don't panic!! If it wasn't inconclusive and you need further treatment (your question wasn't clear) they will probably want to perform laser surgery whereby changing cells that potentially might become cancerous are removed. Though not the most dignified of procedures, it is relatively painless and usually very effective. I suggest you ring the hospital and ask what the problem is to put your mind at rest. It sounds like you're being retested cos they didn't get a proper sample the first time which is very common and nothing at all to worry about. Good luck x x x

Relax, I'm sure everything will be fine. Alot of the time, the swabs that they do aren't clear, or they don't get enough cells and stuff, so they ask you back for a retest. Don't worry about it, I'm sure you will be ok. At least you can keep an eye on it, eh? My sis has had a couple of abnormal smears, and now has to have one every 6 months, which is good, as you can catch anything abnormal really quickly. You'll be fine! Stand firm, sista!

It's almost certainly an unclear result that could not be tested at the lab. If it was an abnormal result, they usually leave it a while to see if the cells revert back to normal without treatment. Also, if it was an abnormal result, it would say it on the letter (mild, moderate, severe changes). I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Three months is a long time to wait for a smear test result though.

A recall doesn't necessarily mean anything wrong. It could just mean they have found some abnormal cells that they want to check on. For a few years I had to have a smear test every year because they were keeping an eye on something, but all is back to normal now.
It's only natural to panic but it's better to be safe than sorry. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing.

They recall you if there's an abnormality. This can be just the result of a wrongly taken test, or not enough cells, as well as the more serious reasons. Go and get the test done again and try not to worry about it until then. If there is anything wrong (god forbid) then they will have caught it early and you'll be in the hands of the best people to advise you. Best of luck.

please don't panic...as it is not uncommon to have to take a retest. it could be a few reasons...main one...well contamination is the number one cause. Somehow your smear got contaminated either initially or at the lab. Did it say specifically why you needed a retest? Did it say you tested positive for HPV?? in most cases HVP clears on it's own but they wanna make sure it does. If it test positive a second time then they will want to do a more thorough exam. It's natural to worry but please remain calm. It's probably nothing as in most cases. But they always wanna make sure. Good Luck

Please don't worry. It is urgent that you have a retest - probably because the results of your last one were inconclusive. If the disease is caught in the early stages, it is very treatable, so it's best to know as soon as possible.

They want to make absolutely sure that there are no mistakes in their tests (there have been some problems with smear tests recently and some double checks have been necessary to make ABSOLUTELY sure that you don't have cancer.)

Easier said than done but try not to worry about. Often it's just because the results weren't clear and need to retest. I have been recalled a couple of times and there's no problem.
