Here's some of my favourites:
- Ia io (a vespertilionid bat - the only scientific name that's all vowels)
- Ondotra zibethicus (muskrat - this was also the battlecry of our Zoological Student's Association)
- Bison bison (the bison, naturally)
- Gorilla gorilla (guess which critter this is)
- Alouatta ululata (howler monkey)
- Alcelaphus buselaphus (hartebeest)
- Babyrousa babyrussa (babirusa, a type of Sumatran wild pig)
- Mammuthus exilis (pygmy mammoth - kind of like jumbo shrimp)
- Mops mops (a type of bat)
- Boselaphus tragocamelus (nilgai - a kind of Indian antelope. The name translates to 'ox-deer goat-camel')
- Avahi cleesei (woolly lemur - named after John Cleese)
- Pudu mephistophiles (Northern pudu deer)
- Paraxerus lucifer (black and red bush squirrel)
- Desmodus draculae (giant South American vampire bat)
- Pteropus vampyrus (giant Malaysian fruit bat)
- Daubentonia madagascariensis (aye aye)
- Lama glama (llama - best scientific name ever)
- Alopex lagopus (Arctic fox - it's fun to say)
- Callicebus moloch (dusky titi - actually I like the common name more)
- Ailurops ursinus (bear cuscus)
Too bad you weren't looking for insects or dinosaurs though, there's lots of good scientific names for them.

Species and genus are defined scientifically. Some scientist have slightly different standards but the acceptable definition is species is the smallest unit that can produce fertile offspring and is reproductively isolated from other groups and fundamentally similar in structure. Species that are similar in appearance but cannot produce fertile offspring are of the same genus or subgenus. Sometimes species such as your white and black dog might be, are thought to be different species. Then when they produce fertile offspring they are reclassified as the same species.
