I believe i am going to try the ai at home with a donor.

The people choosing this method for several reasons
A. They want a baby and significant other can not produce one
lots of lesbian couples, husbands with vasectomys or low sperm counts or other fertiliy problems (my husband can't produce)

B. If they have normal sex to get pg their significant others would say this was cheating or they feel its morally wrong without love

C. Cost is too high in doctors office an they want to do un nessesary testings

D. The donors might want to be known donors and you would know who the biological father really is and if the child wants to have contact at age 18 they can and you can ask tons of questions so you know you are picking the right donor

E. Donors are alot of times friends of the recipent so more confortable doing this.

Hope this help you understand why people consider doing this.

Folks that do intrauterine insemination are usually going through fertility treatments. The doc has the lady on hormones and when she releases an egg he takes the sperm and places it up further than it would all naturally go on it's own, therefore increasing the chance of conception by reducing the number of sperm that don't make it anywhere near their destination. Putting them closer to the egg gives them a better chance.

I can't imagine anyone would actually try this at home. It's known as the turkey baster method but there isn't an actual turkey baster involved.

Rent the movie "The Big Chill", and you'll get the idea.
