I had to read an essay for the LSAT that said blacks did EVERYTHING on the plantation. Built the fancy houses, made elegant carriages, decided what and when to plant and when to harvest. The only thing whites were credited with doing was gambling and raising militias to keep the slaves working. If any or all of this is true no one could have thought blacks inferior. So did they start this propaganda after slavery? Perhaps to keep a well trained work force from competing for jobs?

The concept of racial inferiority was prevalent before the abolition of slavery.....Consider the experiences of the 54th Mass. volunteers a black infantry regiment and their experiences....recieving less pay than soldiers of the same rank.....and the rule that slaves were counted as three fifths of a person....to name two examples .

Are you asking specifically about slavery in the US? Because it has been a worldwide and almost eternal phenomenon, with slaves holding more or less rights and power depending on where and when.

"Racial inferiority" is simply a manifestation of the universal Us/Them principles of human culture. And contrary to what you have read, most US slave owners worked beside their slaves in the fields. The "Gone With The Wind" picture was extremely rare, and was also extremely tenuous, since most Southern planters were financially very insecure.

I would think that the racial inferiority would have arisen from being slaves to the white slave owners.

No - racialism is a very old vice. The jews are the earliest recorded racists as they have always considered themselves god's chosen people and all other races to be inferior.
