Since this is a limited audience, they may actually click that link and pass through all the virus checking on their machines... But I wouldn't bother clicking on ANY ".exe" links!

You cant execute a exe or other in plain html
however if you save the file as .SHTML and SSI is enabled
then use the form

However you are running the risk of being banned from any hosting service and potentially convicted if your exe file is deemed to be malware.

Just use JavaScript if you must do something like what you suggest.

Sure you can, but its not accepted by the W3C or most ISP, or INTERNIC, or ICAAN or most anyone on the internet. Cross the wrong serfer and you could be in totall denial.
Sites that have Viri on them are now being taken to court for it. And its the Goverment that is rendering and issuing the warrants.
Just use JScript if you wish to display something, if you wish to offer a Download Link, you can do that also, but its kinda hard, well it isnt hard, its just not wise to place an Executible in an HTML/XHTML script.

you can link to one, so that when someone clicks the link, it will give them the option to open or download,

but you can't put one in that runs automaticly when someone loads the page,

for that you'd need Javascript,
but then a lot of people are turning that off for security reasons.
