It could also be as a result of voter apathy usually only half a little over half of the American population will turn out to vote so the elections are a bit of a lottery anyway.

Whilst Americans have the right to vote and very few exercise it, in other countries voting like Australia and New Zealand voting is compulsory rather than a right despite the fact that both systems are democracies.

However what you do with the ballot papers whilst in the privacy of the voting booth is your business.

I basically think that if you dont exercise your say in a democracy then you will always get the government you deserve and you cant ***** about the outcome.

We do have other parties. Independents, Green Party, and the Libertarian party, It is just that the most dominant parties are the Republican and Democrat. They have the most members there fore the most power. The elections were so close in America this time that the few Independents that are in Congress are going to be the swing that can change the balance of power one way or the other. Both parties will have to try and court them, even though there is only a couple of them.

It's pretty crazy with just 2 parties fighting all the time. Imagine 5 parties all with their own unique agenda fighting like that all the time. It'll be hard to get things done like pass bills and other things.

though both the parties advocate capitalism, democratic party is to some extent progressive. it wants the American troupes be with drawn from Iraq. it advocates same sex marriages and is favorable for abortion bill and in favor of funding stem cell research. the voters of dems are mostly black, women and the Muslims and poor people .not only in the USA, even in UK also there are only two major parties.

theyre this close because of a growing dissatisfaction of the electorate. as liberals like hillary and ms. pelosi make big govt bigger with ever increasing confiscatory taxes alot of working americans simply give up and dont participate. the contest becomes as this mid term election did....not whats right but who got out the largest amount, usualy under fifty percent, of registered voters who are still not complacent enough to avoid voting.

You are right. In my country we have at least 5 parties. If one party gets majority of votes, than the party is in position and others are in opposition. If the whiner party doesn't get enough votes to be alone in position, party must connect with others to be in position. So, the wining party must work with others and be diplomatic enough to work together and to be in position.

Tell me somethingg I don't understand in USA! Why big corporations finance presidential elections? When president wins he must obey and do somethin in return to those corporations. Isn't that corruption? Is this legal? I don't understand, please! In my country parties have to have their own money and when corporation want to finance someone it is called corruption.
