I met him outside my house once, I stopped him and asked if I could have a pic taken with him............he was a really nice guy, chatted to me for a few minutes and was on his way.......
I don't think he's a 'tortured' genius, or miserable, he's just someone who can put the ups and downs of everyday life into some wonderful lyrics, and songs...........
Miserable??? Have you seen him in Ricky Gervais's Extras......??

Just because a man can write a heartfelt song doesn't make him "tortured" and doesn't make him "miserable" or a "bed wetter" either. I'd rather listen to some of Coldplay's guitar songs than most of the other rubbish which is passed off as music these days.

I think Chris Martin is quite inspirational. Instead of following the path set by so many before him of drug and alcohol abuse, he has made it too the top and is staying there as a seemingly sober being. Now, obviously he's probably done his fair share of drugs before, but he is not addicted to any and seems a very settled family man. I have seen numourous interviews he has done and each time my respect for him grows. So he married a hollywood actress. big deal. They do quite a good job at living a normal family life. And unlike a lot of celebrity couples their relationship doesn't seem to be on the rocks.
So, in answer to you're question, he is neither. A tortured genious? come on buddy, anyone who ever came close to being a tortured genious died long ago. think kurt cobain and jeff buckley. Chris Martin earns my praise for being an honest, down to earth composer.

Neither. He's a moron who married a Hollywood superstar and lives in Notting Hill or something. Oooooo, how rock'n'roll, Chris. Can't write a decent song to save his life anymore and it's debatable whether he ever could.
