Even AVG anti virus does not update. The network is working perfectly. It seems like theres a "link" missing or a "block" between the program trying to access the INet and the net itself (sounds funny, this is what it "feels" like). This happens with dail-up and ISDN. The bottom left corner of IE dispaly: "Finding site ..........", and there it remains. Have uninstalled, re-installed, you name it. Does not even connect to MS Update.

yeh i had this problem.was a pain in the a**.... hit me out of the blue for no reason, or so i thought!.....this is what i did and it fixed it...........i was advised todump the SP2 i went to add and remove programmes and dumped that sucker...... sure it was great security (machine never logged on so no chance of security probs!) then i uninstalled my virus protector........ VOILA! i could connect finally............ so after much investigation........ my best option was to redownload my virus scanner and TURN OFF THE FIREWALL IN THE VIRUS PROTECTOR and use the windows firewall........ and never get SP2again

Check your firewall configuration, that IE is on the "allowed" list and also your AV program is on the "allowed" list
