Hi.

I had to have glucose testing done whilst I was pregnant as I had a family history of diabetes. All it means is that your last blood test results showed you have too much sugar in your blood. The test will involve you turning up at the hospital after fasting for a number of hours and having some blood taken. They will then make you drink a glucose drink and sit around for a couple of hours before taking your blood again.
The first blood test allows them to get an idea of what your base glucose levels are, without any food to affect it. The second blood test allows them to see how well your body has processed the glucose they gave you to drink.

There is a condition called gestational diabetes which affect some women. It basically means that they become diabetic for the length of their pregnancy. It's nothing to worry about as long as it is picked up and treated. Just go for your tests and you'll be fine.

Good luck, I hope they rest of your pregnancy is free from problems. You seem to be having a terrible time of it at the moment.

Bladder infections are more likely in pregnancy and they can travel all the way up to your kidneys - very dangerous for you and baby. So they just want to get you on antibiotics to treat the infection so you and baby are healthy and you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

Glucose levels sometimes are high in pregnancy, even if you aren't diabetic. They will want to do the glucose load test which is a more specific/accurate type test to check your blood sugar levels. You will have blood drawn, drink a very sweet drink and have blood drawn again. If your sugar levels are elevated they will talk to you about what you eat and also monitor your sugar levels more closely. It's not a doomsday scenario, but untreated high sugar levels can lead to some complications so they are just looking out for you and the baby.

It's all routine stuff but unsettling none the less. Hang in there and good luck!

I've had a glucose test during pregnancy. Don't worry because if you are found to have gestational diabetes (diabetes in pregnancy) at least they will know and you can be monitored and treated.

You go to the hospital early and having not eaten since midnight, have a blood test, then you have a sugary drink, then a couple of hours later you go back for another blood test which will show how your body has processed the sugar.

Good luck

It's a nuisance, but not traumatic. You fast - I've honestly forgotten whether you start fasting at 6 p.m. or midnight, it is one or the other - the day before the test. Don't drink diet soda while fasting, even though it is noncaloric - some docs seem to think it affects blood sugar levels. Then, at an unpleasantly early hour, you go to the hospital and get your blood sugar tested before and two hours after drinking a glass of very, very sugary soda pop, which isn't harmful...just kind of disgusting by most adults' standards. You'll be ready for a decent meal once it's over. Take something good to read for the two hours between blood tests.

I had aglucose test when I was cexpecting my son as he was a big baby and apparently that is one of the signs of gestational diabetes.
I had to go to the clinic at 9am after fasting since 12 midnight and have a blood test, then drink about 3 glasses of Lucozade. I was not allowed to eat or drink anything (even water) for the next two hours. After 2 hours I had another blood test.
The results said I was borderline diabetic so I was induced at 39 weeks as there was achance baby could have high blood pressure. Fortunately he didn't & we were both ok.
The chances of getting gestational diabetes increase with age and number of pregnancies but I was fine with my second.
Even if you do have gestational diabetes there is a good chance that it will disappear after you have the baby and there will be no lasting effects for either of you.
Good luck!

ive had the test it is uncomfortable but nothing to really worry about it is a fasting where they take a blood test then make you drink this sickly glucose....then 2 hours later they give you another blood test to check you glucose tolerance and to check for diabetes , they usually do this if your baby is on the large size to single out Diabeties it will not harm your baby just make sure you are having a healthy diet and if your results say your diabetic that you cut down on starchy foods

my first glucose test came back abnormal too.i have to do the 3 hour one thursday.they said its very common and usually there is nothing wrong.did you eat right before your test cause that could have caused it to be abnormal.also stress can cause you sugar levels to go out of wack.i wouldnt worry about it until you need to.and even if you have diabetes it can be controlled and it usually goes away after you deliver.congrats on the baby!!

glucose levels usually mean sugar in your urine which CAN mean Gestational diabetes (nothing to worry about as usually goes after baby born, just needs to be controlled).
Most pregnant women get urinary infections (protein levels a little high in urine stick test) Easily treated with antibiotics. Some women also get thrush which again is easily treated.....Main thing is do not panic.

I woundnt take any notice of the tape measurments, just go by your dating scan. I was constantly measured big, at 23 weeks they were measuring me 29, they got me all worried with reasons why the baby could be big or that i may have too much fluid which can be a sign of a birth defect e.t.c and reffered me for a growth scan. My baby measured normal, the fluid was normal and i have changed midwives and she is measuring me right on target. Honestly, dont worry about it at all, you are what your scan says you are!
