Work experience might not help while taking up the CAT's written test where ofcourse your preparation helps a lot. But while the group discussions are going on, the work experience surely makes a lot of difference. Especially when group discussion topic is a case study of some kind. There one can surely put in some very good inputs. Also when one has worked in an industry, one gets used to putting the ideas and facts in a more logical manner!

MBA has to do with management, so you always have an upper edge if you are able to understand what goes on in an organisation which you can't know unless you have work ex. So wen u r in the course you will get a better picture by relating it to your experience. In the sense you are walking through the way you already know but with a better broader understanding. MBA is not mugging up some concepts but relating it with real life. N hw it is related to CAT is that DI, logical reasoning, verbal and most of all in the Interview ,,,,,you are indirectly using something which you use regularly in work knowingly or unknowingly. So it develops the way you try to tackle a situation. But the rest of it is sheer hardwork....

Well, nine out of ten times one would feel that work experience would not help one while taking the CAT given the fact that the exam is purely based on academic syllabus. But the analytical skills which one develops while working do help(only to a certain extent though)

It does'nt really matter if you are employed or not but what really matters is your academic qualification and your ability to adjust with pressures of working in a group and working with a group in any institution only gives you an idea about your ability. As far as experience is concerned MBA degree will give you far more opportunities to generate that ability.

see friend...CAT doesnot conduct only academic theory paper, there are further group discussions, interviews.
group discussion topics are generally related to your past life experience...and in interview the examiner checks how nuch you are responsible to every part of life.
