I didn't know we had gotten rid of the death penalty. I live in Texas and I am pretty sure we still have the death penalty. I kinda have mixed feelings about it. Murder is murder and sentencing someone to death is murder. However I think about some of the horrible crimes these people commit. They will never be able to live in our society. We are wasting millions and millions of tax dollars letting them sitting in jail when they will never be released. But what is worse? Dying for your crimes or living the rest of your life in jail having to think everyday why you are there. I am sure that would be more torturous for me.

Well in my opinion iam against the death penalty when britain had the death penalty it didnt often work out because people who were sentenced to death were really proven innocent later on like derek bentley timothy evans were not guilty of the crimes they did. So the death penalty has negative sides to it as well. so technically i dont support it for that reason.
If it was reinstated it should be reinstated for crimes ;like serial killers child murderers people like hannbel lechter, hitller, nick griffin BNP leader saddam hussain.
However the death penalty should not be used unless it is absoultely neccessary and should be seen as a last resort as most serious crimes now carry life sentences which is i think more than enough. The death penanlty really doesnt stop crime or deter it as crime is an on going problem but reinforcing religion and christianity into our society and our education has an impact. Plus you have to think of the families of these people who are going to die as well as that is always important.
Society always has a one tracked mind and are very biased whenit boils down to these subjects and people do not often see the full story but in my opinion the death penalty reinstating it must be given coinsiderable and careful thought as there are human rights laws and eu legislation to consider.

I think the death penalty is OK as long as you are sure you have got the right person, (How awful would that be for a family if you killed one of their members and then 10 years later discover that they did not commit the crime , would you tell them?).But with new advances in forensic science the certainty of getting the right person is very high.If they did bring it back it would act as a deterrent. However I believe the death penalty should only be used for the deliberate death of another human being.

It is a foolish waste of effort. If the point is that you must punish someone for being a terrible, awful, very bad person it makes more sense to give them life without the possibility of parole. It is also an incredible expense to keep someone on death row, which usually costs upwards for one year of what it would take to keep them alive and suffering for thirty. If you were an economist it makes no sense. If you are a politician it makes perfect sense because it is all for appearances sake which does not speak well for the rest of us who follow along -

I would only have the death penalty for crimes against children because such crimes can have no excuse. Paedophiles would be put painlessly to sleep after their second offence.

The death penalty may be an evil concept to some but we in Scotland have just seen the single most powerful argument in its favour .The three animals [Icannot dignify calling them men] who butchered an innocent fifteen year old boy for no other reason than the colour of his skin deserve to die .Iwould also include child murderers[huntley etc],paedophiles ,rape murders and terrorists. Police killers could also be added to these.

I am against it as someone has to kill on behalf of the state in a non war situation. That person has to live with that knowledge for the rest of their life.
Should a referendum be made and it bring in the penalty then those in favour should be called at random to do the killing.

Death penalty is used by primitive culture (like USA and Iraq, hi, hi). Modern societies know that when people judge, can be some mistakes (it is human to do mistakes) and can happen that we execute an innocent person.
It is also not humane to kill a person (even though he is a criminal). It is better that he suffer in a prison. That is expensive for a country, so death penalty is for some countries a quick solution and also in a way an act of satisfaction and joy to see other suffer.

Not sure.
In my country it is no longer used, but here in the US it is.
You can't really weigh the balance of being for or against it.
I mean say a woman killed her husband because he mistreated and beat her for 40 years....compared to someone who murdered 30 people over a 40 year period?
Should they BOTH receive the death penalty??
I would think not.
For me personally, i am neither for or against it
