The Coat of Arms of Indonesia is a golden eagle called the "Garuda" (Eagle), which symbolizes creative energy. The principal color of the "Garuda" is gold, symbolizing the greatness of the nation; whereas its black sub-color represents nature. The 17 flight feathers on each wing, 8 tail feathers, and 45 neck feathers denotes respectively the date, month, and year of the Indonesia's Proclamation of Independence: 17-8-1945 (17 August 1945).

The motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," which is enriched on a banner held by the legs of the eagle, means "Unity in Diversity." This motto is a founding principle of the modern Indonesian nation, which declares the essential unity of its members despite ethnic, regional, social or religious differences.

The shield manifests Indonesia's national self-defense, symbolizing both struggle and protection. The red and white colors of the shield's background denote the color of the Indonesia's national flag; while its fields represent the National Way of Life or National Philosophy: "Pancasila," upon which the Indonesian state is founded.

Its shield contains five images that symbolize each state principle of Pancasila.

Beside the flag, the Garuda is perhaps the most important symbol, a golden eagle symbolising creative energy.

You can also count the characteristic uniuqe things as symbols, such as the komodo dragon, for example.
