What is the best way to coach a very shy officemate?

What do you mean coach?i'm not sure what you mean but when someone is shy it's really important to speak to that person in a one on one basis as opposed to let's say questioning them in front of several officmates. It's nice of you to make an extra effort to work with someone who's not so extroverted.

I agree with the person who said try to make it one on one. I would say try to become the person's friend so offer them a coffee at break and encourage them to talk about other subjects ones which make them confident and comfortable. Maybe go for lunch? Dont put them on the spot.
