In my opinion, and in no particular order:

Enid Blyton - a favourite for children, and for creating characters such as Moonface and the Saucepan Man

J.K Rowling - for creating a world in "Harry Potter" which has managed to capture audiences globally, and unite people in discussing all aspects of the books/movies

Frances Hodgson Burnett for "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden"

L.M. Montgomery for the "Anne of Green Gables" series

Jane Austen for "Pride and Prejudice"

...Where would the world be without fiction? :-)
