The new moisturisers on the market with tanning lotion are great!
Johnsons do one. You moisturise after washing and it gives you a fresh glow that looks natural. You'll love it!

I personally like the St. Tropez range. You can get it in Boots and Debenhams. It also has a bronzer in the cream so you are a shade darker the moment you apply it. I also think it lasts a lot longer than other brands i.e. up to a week, which is probably why it's a bit more expensive.
Tips are:
Apply moisturiser first - helps with even coverage, although I dont find this make streaky
Use very sparingly on your feet/ankles and knees they tend to go darker for some reason, no matter what make you use
Dont put any tight fitting clothes on until its dry or they will get a tan too
Wash your hands immediately afterwards!
Happy tanning!!

I was like you until Itried Airbrush by Sally Hansen, Im not jokingthis is the best in the world!!!
You spray it on and it appears instantly, rub it in like foundation, then spray touch ups where you think you need it, no faffing around waiting 3 hours to develop! it looks just amazing, I can finally wear shorts out on a night out now and am well chuffed! As i dont tan at all i couldnt before without looking like Casper the ghost, but now am all tanned and tasty woohoo! Its so easy to use, i thought it would be a nightmare, when Ifirst used it, it took me about 30 mins to do coz I was well scared of messing up, now Ive got it down to a cool 10 mins for the lot.
I get it from TJ Hughes and its only a fiver and lasts for ages! no streaking or anything. Ive told lots of my mates and they use too, so we cant all be wrong can we??
just try it, trust me you will be well chuffed!!!

I like the rimmel instant stuff - you can get them in boots and most supermarkets now. I think its called sun shimmer.
They do them in two diferent shades light and medium, with and without shimmer. You dont need too much, just put a little bit on at a time and rub it in pretty quickly, then gradually build it up to how you want it!
I think they're best if you've never used fake tan before, because they're instant, you see it as soon as you put it on, so can see if its streaky or not!
2 downsides to it:
1. Its best you put it on with a tanning glove or something smooth (I just got one from boots, but they don't always stock them), as its really sticky and gloopy and doesnt go on well with your hands. Otherwise, I first used a flannel - which works fine, but is a bit rough on your skin!
2. Because its instant it comes off really easily - so dont wear it if its likely to rain!!!!!
Otherwise, if you dont like the sound of this, i'd use one mixed in with moisturiser - and would suggest johnsons!
Hope this helps!
Happy tanning

I've always found the mousse tans are easier to apply and I've been using them since '91.
I really like the Avon mousse and it's not very expensive. Last night I tried the Piz Buin (?) mousse, and although I can see a difference it's not as dark as the Avon one. Another good one is the Boots Soltan mousse.
Make sure you do exfoliate knees, heels, elbows etc.
Good luck!
