Hi, i'm Dutch. Here's a few nice places near Leidseplein (under or around 30 euro for three course). All truly recommended, but it depends on your personal taste and style.

De Zotte is a lovely Belgian restaurant and bier huis - with about 600 different types of beer. Fantastic if you love fillet steak. Informal, full of locals, and great ambience. Good value too. Found on Ramstraat.
The best restaurant in Amsterdam though is De Kas. Michelin star - the best meal I've ever eaten in Europe. It isn't cheap, but you'll never have a meal like this again, in your life. Not that near to Leidseplein, but the taxi will take about 10-15 minutes. It's well worth it!
For food and fun, it's hard to beat Boom Chicago - on Leidseplein - a bit of a comedy club, with served and seated food. A good experience.

Hey Jane S.

Your other answerers look like they are expecting you to either go for sex, or eat a curry for your Christmas lunch near the Leidseplein.

For European food, I'd suggest the following:

Lulu, Runstraat 8 (French bistro)
Tout Court, Runstraat 13 (French/Dutch)
Zomers, Prinsengracht 411 (Dutch)
Het Tuynhuys, Reguliersdwarsstraat 28 (Dutch/Portuguese)
Takens, Runstraat 17D (Simple Dutch)
't Swarte Schaep, Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 24 (Dutch)
