Light contains particles known as Photons. Since it is dark all around the theatre there will be large difference in the density of photons between dark and light rays. Due to this difference the emerging light rays will be clearly visible. The dust particles in the air will be visible along with the rays since they are present in the atmosphere. But the visibility of light beam is not due to presence of dust particles.
