It depends on how you feel about those cute little creatures, or if you think they are disease carrying vermin that eat everything.
Find someone with a terrier and dig them out, if it's under a building you can block the holes up, but they will dig more to get out though !!
If there is NO risk to dogs or children, or even other animal thens you can put poison bate down, slow painful death.
Or, NOT recommended, us a water spray demister, fill it with petrol and squirt down all the holes, the vapourised fuel will drift through the holes, use a toilet roll as a fuse, take cover. It does not really burn them as it is over in a quick flash, too little total amount of fuel, its more the shock and they will leave in a hurry.
Remember, the theory is you are never more than 10m from a rat.

I presume its outside somewhere, If so just destroy it. Try not to leave anywhere they can nest, and if you feed the birds stop for a week or two as this is probably what attracted them in the first place. Rats visit most gardens looking for food so if they find a ready supply (bird table) they will nest close by. If this fails just trap them or poison them. Good luck.

Put a trail of food from the nest into your house. Once the rats enter your house live with them and charge them rent. If they do not pay tell them that they can do various household chores as payment instead. It worked for my nest of termites.

the pest control places are usually really expensive if you go to your local pet store you should be able to purchase pellets to kill the pests and other pellets that actually make the rats infertile which means no more babies, rats usually make there nests near where food is located make sure that there is no access points for them to get near foods, you can also get sencor sprays which spray poison when they notice a movement obviously the rats are coming in the house or there wouldnt be a problem so just sit it facing where they are entering and this will kill them you may have to clean up some dead ones sometimes thow!! yum yum

Fire. Burn it. Providing its outside. If you have trouble with rats then buy a cat. The smell will drive the rats off.

Humanely?
Or not humanely?
Humanely is with a trap.
Not humanely is with a dog, or with poison.
If you want to do it right, go with not humanely, and if you want to do it quick, put food down for them which is smothered rather than laced with poison - just make sure that you dispose of the carcasses, so that no animals feed on them.
