Yes you can, but make sure they are outdoor lights there is no need to be a qualified electrician. As far as I know there is nothing to prevent you doing this. But for your own safety as well as other all you have to do is make sure that they are securely attached to where you want to put them this is only common sense

ONLY put outside lights which tell you on the box that they can be used outside of your home.
You do not need an electrician and should be able to put up outside lights yourself.
But if you are not sure, then ask an electrician for a quote to do the job for you.
Again, check the box the lights come in for clarity that they can be used outside!

No electrician required. Just get external/outdoor lights. These are sold everywhere; Argos, Tesco, Asda, even pound shops but I personally prefer to buy things someplace that will still be there after christmas. People have but up their lights since September in my area.

The lights you require are available and are safety tested for external use as they go through a low voltage to extra low voltage transformer.
NO you do not need an electrician as these lights just normally plug into a socket.

If the label rates it for external use you will be quite okay, especially if you have an outside plug. An alternative I have used is to put up lights just inside the windows. It shows from the street, and because it does not matter about weather, I can use any I like. If you want to go fancy, why not use lights inside windows and outside?
Happy Christmas!

If the lights are to be plugged directly into a 13amp socket Via a RCD device then all you have to do is to put the lights up! and switch on!.
If the lights are to be wired into a new circuit then you are obliged to get an electrician to check wiring to conform with building regulations.

you don't legally have to be qualified to put lights up on your own property, but would recommend you:
- buy lights designed for outside
- follow all the instructions when setting up and connectiong them
- make sure you don't put yourself at an health and safety risks (eg falling off the roof...)
- seek advice if in doubt, which any good hardware store will be able to supply
bear in mind that
- they may use a lot of electricity
- they may annoy the neighbours
- they may attract visitors and traffic
- you need to make sure your property is still secure
good luck

I own one of those that people complain about at Christmas time.
We don't collect for charity. We put them up for our own pleasure and for the pleasure of local children. We started small and add a little each year. We now have four rain proof distribution boxes outside and it takes 2-3 days to put them up.
No professional electrician not required(in UK) but suggest you make sure you know what u r doing before embarking on this kind of project. Oh and our electric trebles in December!

You can, but only if you don't mind everyone thinking you're a chav.
Your neighbours will mutter about 'Las Vegas' when they see you, but won't say anything because the lights keep them awake and they're afraid you'll put up more.
Or have they got chavvier lights than you, is that it? A little competition?
The ones with Santa going up & down a ladder, or flying a plane, or sitting in a train with the steam flashing on & off, are the most tasteful.
