I have upgraded from 2mg to 8mg broadband but it doesn't seem to be any faster. My line can support it. I have ran the speed test and the result is 132.13mbps. Is that 8mg??? Please can anyone help?

Go to http://www.adslguide.org.uk

In the top right corner of the home page click on the "Speed Test" link, then follow the instructions.

Everything you will have received regarding your broadband from your provider will say "up to 8MB" (note the words "up to") - you will definitely not actually get 8MB.

The service will tune itself to your particular line to give you the optimum speed. The tuning happens during the first 10 days of the service during which time you can get wildly differing speeds. After that it should settle down to a consistent speed. The optimum speed is determined by the quality of your phone line which in turn is effected by your distance from the telephone exchange.

Don't be fooled into thinking you will get 8MB. This is a theoretical maximum which won't be achieved in practice. On a good quality line you're likely to get 6-7MB. On a poor quality line it may not be any better than your previous 2MB.

8mbps the 132.13 is the max speed your wireless card is able to process

example my computer says 54mbps but my service provider is only 9mbps

Hi,
I'm unsure but I can tell you that 'mbps' stands for Megabytes per second' which may help you. If I were you, I'd contact your broadband provider and ask, that's why they have call centres!
It may be your computer, it may not be as fast as your broadband.

I hope I helped,
Good luck!
