The plural of dessert is desserts. It can be in the plural. For instance if there were a number of different kinds of desserts in restaurant, they would be desserts.

None of the desserts was found.
(The word 'none' is short for 'not one', and it always takes a singular verb).

Actually, it should be "None of the desserts was found." None in this instance serves as the subject and means the same as "not one," as in "Not one of the desserts was found." Desserts is not the subject and the verb does not agree with it. Anyone who says otherwise, quite frankly, is wrong.
