Searching for the name of a book- volcano/basement?

Im searching for a book I read when I was younger, its about a family who move into a new house and the father and son discover a volcano in the basement, they keep this a secret from the rest of the family until the end of the book. I think the father works in a baby powder factory. Does any know this book? thanks!
