You should just stick with local issues...who the mayor is of their city, etc. Keep it simple, they don't understand the abstract of US "politics" yet...

A basic history book should be good.

I don't think kids should be exposed to the hardcore politics just yet, since they'll just side with their role model, and won't understand any of their own opinions.

Usually schools provide decent textbooks to their students.

Children should NOT get interested in politics. When you are a kid, nothing matters and you are happy and content. When you are exposed to politics you develop opinions and your life starts to go downhill. Do the right thing and keep em' away from politics.

what the hell do 2nd and 3rd graders wanna know about politics?
you trying to brainwash them?
