You don't. You use iTunes to put music on it, and nothing else.

Ok is the music in your Windows Media Player in a folder??? If not put it into a folder so you can click on it and open it. Once you have done that, open iTunes and click file>import. Double click on your song and it will ask if you want to convert the song to the iTunes format. Click yes and it will convert it and add it to your library. Then all you have to do is dop it onto your iPod!

itunes will only work to put songs on....windows media player has nothing to do with apple or iTunes so import the songs from your file and put them into iTunes then it will update and you will have your songs on your ipod

i wouldnt recommend widows media player anyway

You can do it by importing, but you can only do so through iTunes, as caely has already said. Good advice there!
