about philippines - how much united ?

Hi.. I need some more explanation to my homework. The question is actually about if Philippines "united" or are there some parts of it that have separate identities? pls give me short paragraphs just explaining that its united. as i know. but if you have other opinions, ppls do explain. thank you so much!!!

Well, maybe you have forgotten that part of Mindanao (where mostly Muslims reside) wants to become independent from the Philippines . It's a never ending story down there- a never ending war between guerillas and the military.>>> so, not united.
