Hi.. I need some more explanation to my homework. The question is actually about if Philippines "united" or are there some parts of it that have separate identities? pls give me short paragraphs just explaining that its united. as i know. but if you have other opinions, ppls do explain. thank you so much!!!

If what you mean by unity is that of the Philippines as an "imagined community" then i can tell you filipinos can very well identify themselves as one. As you may see filipinos have close ties and even when in other countries they form so called "Filipino Communities". But then if you speak of unity as having a particular culture that you can pinpoint, well, Filipinos are not like that. The Philippines has rich and diverse culture and history. The Philippines is is politically divided in several regions, and sometimes they tend to be regionalistic. Teodoro Agoncillo's History of the Filipino People would be a big help. (:

The Phillipines is a synthetic country created by Spain after they conquered a group of islands. They island group is made up of many tribes with different culture and religion. There is a civil war in the south, because the muslim inhabitant do not identify themselves with othe Philipinos. There are other groups with there own language that also exist. In the northern island of Luzon there are several groups that speak a different language.
Most inhabitants consider themselves Philipinos first, but many of the other subgroups of Philipinos don't get along perfectly.
