I love that movie. Well, that's because Richard Dreyfuss is a great actor. I just love how he, the psychiatrist, slowly goes insane trying to get rid of Bob. It's a very creative idea, and I love Richard Dreyfuss' little nervous laugh when Bob says, "I can't. Dr. Marvin doesn't want me to--" Also the slow motion shot of him leaping at Bob at the party is funny.

There certainly are older comedies that are hilarious, for example, Fawlty Towers & Dad's Army. And some so called modern comedians, like Russell Brand, are absolutely abysmal. But is it really the case that older comedy is generally better than modern comedy? I suspect that this is (at least in part) an illusion caused by our forgetting just how much dross there used to be.

Its a completely adorable film. I loved it. Yes, it's a bit cheesy at times but funny. Poor Richard Dreyfus gets sooo upset with Bob and his family doesnt even see whats going on - funny! Thats just me though! ;)
