They are called tonsilliths "lith" meaning stones. Alot of people who still have their tonsils get them, they are bacteria, food particles and white blood cells. They form in the crevices of your tonsils, the deeper your crevices the longer they remain in your throat. Long gargles help loosen them, if you can stand it brush your tonsils in the morning because they uaually form at night, they are harmless except they do cause bad breath. Most people never reliaze they have them. The only thing to do is get be aware and spend extra time in the morning making sure they are all removed or if there to bad maybe your tonsils are bigger than normal and you doc would remove them!

I have never ever heard them called that! How funny..Anyway-it's your sinuses draining. Do you have allergies of any kind? If they are hard, that usually means it's old snot? ECK! Need to find something over the counter to help dry up your sinuses. Good luck!

What Katie K. said! That's what an MD told me when I thought I had strep once. He didn't tell me how to prevent them though, just to gently ease them out whenever I saw them. They are pretty gross though.
