This happened today. I noticed there was some light green tinge on the shower wall and floor. I thought my hubby had used too much cleanser, so I tried rinsing it, but it did not come off.
After I did the white laundry, I noticed some of it had the same light green tinge on it.
Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to remedy the situation?
We have lived in this house for five years and bought it newly built.

When copper oxidizes it turns green. You may have a lot of copper in your water but it is far more likely coming from your pipes.

A water test will determine acidity and any other interesting things in there as well as advice on what to do with it.

I sincerely doubt it is algae; algae does best in standning water, not running water. It is also much easier to clean than copper sediment.

Try asking your neighbors if they have had the same problem.

Doesn't copper leave a green tinge? Having your water tested is a good idea. Call your extension agency (usually at your courthouse) and ask them the steps to get it tested. Some want you to bring in the water ... others come to your house and test it. Your problem sounds like well water troubles. Several of my friends are on well water and they have installed filters to correct the problem. If you aren't on well water your local Water Dept might also be contacted for an answer. m

From the alge that lives inside of the water. No matter how "filtered" water is, there are still microbioorganizisms living inside the water. Some of the little guys, produce alge. If you do not want your water to leave a green tint, rinse the glass frequently.

my well had the same thing. it was to much acid in the water. it was eating away at the copper pipes. i had to install a filter from where the plastic pipe from the well came into the house and before the copper . it cost about $1400 ten years ago in northern calif. the area of the well is in volcanic type soil and rock. this stopped the green color, and the smell of sulfur in the hot water.

It sounds like you need a water test, in the meantime I wouldn't use it. I don't know what you area is like or ? have your water tested right now, I'm not trying to alarm you but, this is not normal.

This could be a "three mile island" it could be coming from somewhere else, until then, get someone out now. Your well is contaminated but, from what?
