Yep, probably most have. It's sad, but close friends always let you down at least once.

My mother abandoned me as an infant and I never saw her again until I was 24. I pretty much died inside from that day forward and can no longer trust anyone, including myself.
My first real girlfriend told me she'd love me forever. She lied. Broke my heart, almost felt happiness and trust again, but never since.
I tried to save another girl her from her family, but when the cops came, she chose them over me, changed her story, and I got threatened with arrest instead of the real abuser. I assumed saving her was good for a lifetime of loyalty, not three minutes. Boy was I an idealist at 19.
Since then I would've dated anyone who liked me, no question, no qualifications necessary. Stayed with some awful person for 10 years.
Now I have a lovely wife. I also have self-respect and criteria for what kind of woman I want. If I ever have to find another it will be a whole other ballgame.

Yes. It is a life lesson and how you handle it will tell how much you have learned. When I was young I handled this very badly and regretted it and now if and when it happens I try to see it from the other viewpoint. Realise I was responsible for being friends or whatever with this person and decide to forgive or not. Either way I now keep my self respect about the whole thing.

Everyone who has ever been betrayed it was by someone close. Otherwise it isn't a betrayal. But I know what you mean and yes I have. One betrayal is enough. Once it happens that person is no longer trusted. If it's a family member, then they lose whatever faith I ever had in them.

In life people will let you down, you have to look at them as lessons learned. it is how life goes if you close yourself off from everyone to protect your self from getting hurt then you will miss out on the joys of life also.
