I've had a poster (unmounted) in a cylendrical roll for over a year, and now I want to stick it up in my lounge room. The problem is the poster keeps curling back into a roll when I hang it.

Other than stick gum all over the edges or other obvious methods that would make it look ugly, does anybody else have a better idea?

Here are a few method's i have tried out myself.
1) Easy/lazy method: Rolling it on the reverse side for about 15 secs and release it usually does the trick.
2) Medium/Patient method: Laying the poster out on a clean table and place some heavy books over it and leave it for a few hours, for better results a day or so. (Best to do it just before u go to bed so it wont get in the way if u need to use the table to do other stuff during the day. Then in the morning when u wake up remove the objects and the poster should be flat.
3) Hard/Perfectionist method: Laying the poster out on the clean table (face side down) and using an iron on low heat with a dry large cloth/towel on top gently iron over it. Do not use a Stream iron though!!! and remember low heat.

I would let the poster lay out for a while outside of its container, maybe a day or two. Possibly you could lay it out on a hardwood/tile floor and put heavy objects on the courners to keep it stretched out. Or you could put a big board over it (not sure how valuable this poster is). Try rolling it in the reverse direction a couple times maybe. Or you could get a frame for the poster to hold it in place. That would make it visually appealing as well. Hope I could help!

They make poster frames that are very affordable at Walmart, Kmart, Target etc.

Take it as it is to a reputable auctioneer and let them deal with it for you. They are the real experts in all things of value, I use them always in cases like you are asking about, mostly now rare books first and second additions.

You could have it sent out to be laminated, it's more affordable than framing and you can use all the tape you want on it!

Put it in a frame.

Roll it the other way from what it was. That may straighten it.
