the standards are pushed by us the society as well as the film industry. over the years what used to be a beautiful woman with curves turned into a skeletal thin actress with no talent and who is not so well rounded. i guess that over the years appearance meant more then being a well talented actress or being classy and graceful or fulfilling the part. the standard have changed a lot for both TV and movies over the years since women started out as your neighbor next door and now end up looking like the model next door. in those days at least people were real with everything: how a person should look, who it should perceive, how it should be dresses and so forth...those people, especially the women had curves and a nice body and a nice talent and were all rounded. in today's society we have the change to see these people being portrayed on TV as though they look like supermodels, glamed up 24/7, on soap operas everything is unrealistic: how people can live such wonderful lives, barely work yet drive a Corvette and live in a mansion. the persona that we get today is so unrealistic with gorgeous men and women, wearing thousands worth of dollars to work, etc. as well as being skinny for the ladies and defined for the guys. today we look at TV and movies and w/o thinking about it we as a society agree that we place more emphasis on how people look rather than on their talents or anything else...i wish that we would have ladies like Vivien Leigh, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn as well as Katherine Hepburn and their styles in the movies or at least 1/10 of their style and how they looked and how confident they were!

Yes and no. Yes, standards have definitely changed. However, it isn't entirely that. Within the last 10 years there has been a lot more emphasis placed on looks. It's most pathetic and sad.

people were real, and talent was what got you the job. now ken and barbie clones are the norm, yet they surprisingly do not reflect society at large. society does have beautys in it, but more are not.
its typical media construction.
