If you mean start the burner then the answer is no. A valve shuts of the gas to the main burner automatically if the pilot is out.

Yes, turn the hot water faucet but, it won't last long. Why is the pilot light off and why would you want to use it if the light is off? Start it up again, follow the directions on the front of the burner.

Can you use the hot faucet? Sure, for cold water.
